Chennai: Before the release of Mani Ratnam’s Brahmanda film Ponniyan Selvan, the crew has released the story of how Arun Mozhi Varman became Raja Raja Chola. Actor Jayam Ravi will play the role of Ponniyin Selvan aka Arun Mozhi Varman in the film. The teaser of the film was released earlier this month. The teaser of the film managed to get huge attention. Karthi is playing the role of Vanthiyathevan in the film. Vikram is playing the role of Aditya Karikalan. Aishwarya Rai will play the role of Queen Nandini of Pazhuvur in the film. Trisha will play the role of Princess Kundavai in the film. Poniyin Selvan comes in two parts. The first part will be released in theaters on September 30 this year. Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights of both parts of the film. Reports suggest that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the digital rights of the film for Rs 125 crore. Ponniyin Selvan is a film jointly produced by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions. The film is releasing in five languages Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Ponniyan Selvan is a film produced by Mani Ratnam based on the world famous historical novel by the legendary writer Kalki (the name of the novel is Ponniyan Selvan). Ponniyan considers Selvan to be the greatest historical novel in Tamil. Mani Ratnam brings Kalki’s masterpiece to the big screen with a huge star cast. Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Lal, Rahman, Riaz, Khan, Khishor, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Shobhita Dhulipala and others are playing the main characters.

AR Rahman is the music director. Ponniyan Selvan is a novel about the crises, struggles, sacrifices and achievements of the Chola emperor in the 10th century. The film is based on the story of Arulmozhi Varman and the Chola dynasty. The novel is written in five parts. Films based on the same novel have been tried before. MGR tried to make this film in 1958 but later abandoned the attempt. Poniyin Selvan is a long time project of Mani Ratnam. Efforts to make the film started in 2012, but it was postponed due to financial difficulties.
