the recent Facebook “direct” in which Pope Francis has participated is one more example of our Pontiff’s ability to convey his closeness, especially to today’s young people.

During the last few years we have been able to see the Holy Father appearing in different videos disseminated through social networksa tool that he has used to get his message across in a simple way.

Throughout history, each Pope has been adapting to the forms of communication of his time. Although Benedict XVI was the first pontiff to have an official Twitter account, Pope Francis has become the first in history to appear on a Facebook “live”.

“Good afternoon to the good people. Is it true that you are good?”: These have been the words that Pope Francis has said during the video broadcast from the facebook account of the Italian priest Enzo Fortunato, a Franciscan who has more than two hundred thousand followers.

Fr. Enzo is also a journalist and collaborates with the Italian television channel “Rai1”, where he also hosts a radio program entitled “On a trip with Francisco”.

The priest defined this moment as “a grace” and “a surprise” and encouraged users to pray for the Pope’s intentions.

“Thank you for your work and for wanting to feed yourself with water, which is the word of God”, the Holy Father continues in the video.

In addition, he assured that “if we lack water, it does not work. The word of God is like water, it is life, it is always with us and it makes us grow. Carry on with the word of God, do not abandon it and continue to be good people.

Lastly, as he usually does on these occasions, Pope Francis gave his blessing to all the spectators. The video, made on Thursday, July 27, has more than six thousand comments and reactions.

Pope Francis has a consolidated presence on social networks. He has an Instagram profile and several official profiles of different languages on Twitter. The Spanish version reaches more than eighteen million followers.
