VATICAN CITY. Gradea lagoon center in the province of Gorizia, offered this year the Creche which will be set up in St. Peter’s Square during the Christmas holidays. From Ledrohowever, in the province of Trento, the majestic one comes from spruce29 meters high, which will be erected next to the reproduction of the Nativity.

On Saturday 7 December, the audience with Pope Francis is scheduled for the morning, while the traditional inauguration and lighting of the large nativity scene and the Christmas tree will be held in St. Peter’s Square at 5.00 pm. The ceremony will be presided over by Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga, President of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, in the presence of Sister Raffaella Petrini, General Secretary of the same Governorate.

The Grado nativity scene is set in the lagoon, full of over a hundred mote, that is, small islets, which extends next to the island, with the Nativity which finds space inside a casóne, the characteristic reed construction inhabited by fishermen.

Regarding the choice of spruce from Ledro, the forestry service observed the requests of the Gardens and Environment Service of the Governorate of the Vatican City State, i.e. that it be placed in an accessible point and well covered with branches.

The selection was made in compliance with sustainability, therefore identifying more mature trees, the harvesting of which represents a natural replacement.
