Conference of bishops from 12 regions of north-south Italy in Benevento on August 30 and 31. Papa’s Message

Joey Kariveli, Vatican City

The Pope inspires the Catholic bishops of Italy to advance with an open heart to bear witness to a Church that embraces all, has no barriers and gives the impression that everyone is welcome.

These encouraging words of Pope Francis are contained in the message given on Tuesday, which was the first day of the meeting, to the thirty bishops participating in the conference of bishops from the 12 regions of the north and south regions, which are threatened by depopulation in Italy, in Benevento, southern Italy, on August 30 and 31 (30-31/08/22).

In his message, the Pope reminds us that apostolic plans and pastoral plans should be formed from the strong central point that there is a place for everyone in the Church. Faced with the difficult situation in the areas where they live, the Pope says, bishops have the duty to extend a helping hand to priests, consecrated persons and lay faithful who share closely in their mission to be leaven in the world.

The Pope wishes that the Conference of Bishops will provide a fruitful fraternal experience and benefit the faithful entrusted with their pastoral care.
