Of the nearly 100 Russians who arrived home from South Africa, 24 people are now in the hospital. Some of them have a positive PCR test, and some have symptoms of coronavirus.

According to the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova, the number of positive tests among arrivals from South Africa is growing every day.

“They are mostly hospitalized because they have positive PCR, but there are also people among them who have negative PCR, but clinical manifestations appear,” Popova said in an interview on the Russia 1 TV channel.

According to the latest data, so far only two cases of the omicron strain have been confirmed.

British taboloid The Mirror reported that the symptoms of the new variant of covid differ from the generally accepted ones. The main signs of infection were previously considered to be cough, high fever, loss of taste and smell. Omicron manifests itself as fatigue, body aches and headaches.

Some experts believe that one in four colds in the world may actually be covid, as its symptoms get progressively better. They also suspect that the new strain is much more infectious. So, 10 days after the discovery of the “omicron” in the UK, more than a thousand cases of infection were recorded.

It is not yet known whether the new option will increase the number of hospitalizations and whether it is affected by existing vaccines.
