Former Chelsea striker Demba Ba has added to the controversy over racism in Argentina by describing the South American country as a “haven for fugitive ex-Nazis”.

Fellow baseball player Enzo Fernández is at the center of a scandal after posting a video on social media that appeared to show him and several of his teammates singing a song that allegedly includes “racist and discriminatory language.”

Fernandez now faces sanctions from the Premier League, while Chelsea have said they are conducting an internal disciplinary procedure and the song has been criticised by his Blues teammate Wesley Fofana.

Now, former Newcastle and Chelsea striker Ba has joined the criticism, posting on X: “Argentina, a land of asylum for fugitive ex-Nazis. Since 1945, Perón has welcomed war criminals. And you are surprised…”

This comes after Argentina’s deputy sports minister was fired for suggesting Lionel Messi apologize for the video.

Yesterday it was revealed that Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister wanted to emphasise that the chant sung by the Argentine team had been somewhat misinterpreted and, in defence of Fernandez, stated that his is “not a racist country”.

“You have to be careful with what you say or do,” Mac Allister said Thursday in an interview with Argentine radio station Urbana Play FM. “Especially in Europe, where they are much more sensitive than here.”

“The reality is that we are not a racist country; we are not used to talking so much about racism.”

Adding that “it was obviously a very important issue,” Mac Allister went on to stress that the midfielder was a good person.

“Enzo has already apologised and explained what happened,” the midfielder continued. “I don’t think there’s much more to say.”
