The Barbakua team from Paraguay, made up of Osvaldo Ariel (Jimmy) Benítez, Frank Schmidt, Richard Gini, Andre Magon and Maik Flaming, will represent our country in the barbecue world championship.
Yes, that’s right. The aforementioned grillers will travel to Stuttgart (Germany) to represent Paraguay at the World BBQ Championship. The event is organized by the German Barbecue Association and the World BBQ Association and will take place on July 27 and 28.
This Paraguayan team achieved eleventh place in the World Barbecue Championship and number one in Latin America, in the competition held in Belgium, in 2022. The world champion on that occasion was Denmark; second place went to Austria and third place to Belgium, the host country.
The World BBQ Championships (WBQA World BBQ Championships 2022) is organized annually by the World Barbecue Association (WBQA) and has been running since 1996 with a view to uniting all countries through barbecue.
Paraguayan barbecue representatives also obtained fifth place in the Intercontinental Barbecue Tournament held in 2023 in Costa Rica. This year, 2024, the challenge is to reach first place, based on talent and quality, and once again leave the name of Paraguayan gastronomy high.
