Joshua Duerksen closed a difficult weekend at Britain’s Silverstone Circuit on Sunday, where he drove for the first time in his racing career.
And while on Saturday in the sprint it was his own mistake that left him unable to reach the points zone and he crossed the finish line as last classified, in the main race on Sunday it was a bad maneuver by a rival that ended the Paraguayan’s participation early.
Duerksen started the race from 15th position and managed to gain three positions on the first lap, quickly moving close to the points and behind Estonian driver Paul Aron of Hitech.
On lap 3 and after the safety car was activated due to the retirement of Andrea Kimi Antonelli (winner of the sprint on Saturday), Joshua, with great pace, quickly went to attack Aron looking to gain one more position.
Arriving at turn 8, called Woodcote, Duerksen had already positioned the car on the right side and the overtaking was imminent, after that he tried to position himself again on the ideal layout so as not to take Copse (turn 9 and high speed) on the inside and have to decelerate.
But at that moment, Aron closed the AIX Racing car, moving the car to the right too late, which led to Joshua making contact with the Hitech’s right rear tyre and subsequently spinning into the gravel.
Joshua Duerksen immediately spoke out angrily on the radio: “Unbelievable. Aron is always being dirty,” he said.
The Estonian driver received a 10-second penalty and was out of the points, but Joshua was unable to continue in the race.
