The festivities of the 63rd National Day of Benin ended on Friday August 4, 2023 in Cotonou, with a mega music concert called “La Saga des Agodjiés”. At the foot of the giant statue of the Amazon which stands behind the Palais de la Marina, a giant podium set up in the garden welcomed around fifteen Beninese artists alongside world star Angélique KIDJO. Organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, “La Saga des Agodjiés” gathered a huge crowd. This mega concert is an initiative of the Government which has kindly offered a moment of popular rejoicing to Beninese. It has brought 14 female artists from all regions of the country to the stage. For more than three hours spent standing in front of the podium, the public was treated to several diverse artistic paintings, witnesses of the cultural richness of Benin. It was a moment of great communion between the spectators and the artists. The winner of five Grammy Awards, the diva Angélique KIDJO, and her orchestra held the audience spellbound for several hours with hearty applause from the spectators who had become both very enthusiastic and demanding.

About an hour after the start of the show, the spectators were gratified by the presence of President Patrice TALON. Seen in the crowd wearing a black hat, the Beninese Head of State was accompanied by certain members of his Government, including the Minister in charge of culture, Jean-Michel ABIMBOLA and Oswald HOMEKY in charge of sports. Patrice TALON did not remain unmoved by the stage prowess of the 14 Agodjiés of Beninese music who followed one another on the stage alongside Angélique KIDJO. He sketched a few dance steps to show his satisfaction. A satisfaction that the thousands of men and women who made the trip to Cotonou could not hide. It was a unique moment that the Government promises to repeat each year on the occasion of the national holiday marking Benin’s accession to international and national sovereignty.
