“Fútbol Libre”, one of the most popular websites in recent years that broadcast illegal sports content, was blocked by the Argentine justice system. Following a raid in the province of Mendoza, more than 50 domains that broadcast football matches and other sports for free were ordered to be taken down.
In addition, the individual accused of being the creator and administrator of Megadeportes was arrested for alleged violation of intellectual property rights.
The operation was carried out in the Godoy Cruz Department, ordered by the Cybercrime prosecutor of the Specialized Fiscal Unit for the Investigation of Cybercrimes (UFEIC), Alejandro Musso.
The law was launched following a complaint filed by the Alliance Against Audiovisual Piracy (Alianza). This organization focuses on regulating the distribution of online content to prevent piracy maneuvers that harm companies that own the rights to such transmissions.
At the end of the operation, the blocking of the sites associated with “Futbol Libre” and “Megadeportes” was ordered.
Judicial sources revealed that this person was arrested for violating the right to intellectual property, regulated by Law 11,723.
According to statements by Jorge Bacaloni, president of Alianza, “the accused was engaged in supplying content and programming tools to other pirate operators, such as access codes to violate the security mechanisms implemented by the companies, which were used by them to feed their services. In other words, he was a kind of consultant for the administration of illegal streaming services.”
As for the investigations currently being carried out, a computer, pen drives and additional items that would provide further evidence of the crime were seized.
The Court found that through the site “www.kahsadtvonline.blogspot.com”, illegal access was offered to sports content with different links, among which were those of “Fútbol Libre”.
