After his team’s 2-0 defeat against Cerro Porteño at Pedro Juan Caballero’s Río Parapití Stadium, the 2 de Mayo coach, Felipe Giménez, did not hesitate to stomp against the refereeing of Mario Díaz de Vivar.
Giménez did not hold back criticism of the referee’s performance, alleging that there were a series of unfair decisions that influenced the result of the match. “You end up with a fight, there was no need to mark the game that way,” declared the visibly upset coach on 1080 AM.
One of the points that generated the most outrage in Giménez was the lack of yellow cards for Cerro Porteño player Santiago Arzamendia, despite having committed multiple fouls. “I complained to the referee that Santiago Arzamendia had come from committing 4 fouls and no yellow,” Giménez claimed, highlighting what he considers unfair treatment towards his team.
The 2 de Mayo coach also denounced that his team’s players were constantly threatened with expulsions by the referee. “He constantly threatened the players that he was going to send him off,” added Giménez, underlining the tension that was experienced on the field of play.
