The French Football Federation (FFF) will lodge a complaint with FIFA after a video of Argentina players singing part of a song containing racist language against the French national team went viral, the organisation confirmed on Tuesday.
The video went viral among the many internal recordings made by the players themselves in the midst of the celebrations after winning the Copa América championship with a 1-0 victory over Colombia at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami last Sunday. Enzo Fernández, a midfielder who plays for Chelsea, was starring in a live broadcast from his Instagram account for more than 35 thousand people when part of the aforementioned song is heard and he begins to announce “it’s live, it’s live,” until he manages to stop the broadcast.
“The President of the French Football Federation, Philippe Diallo, strongly condemns the unacceptable racist and discriminatory comments made against players of the French national team in the context of a song sung by players and supporters of the Argentine national team following their victory in the Copa America and broadcast in a video on social media,” said the statement released by the FFF.
At the same time, they warned: “Given the seriousness of these shocking comments, contrary to the values of sport and human rights, the President of the FFF has decided to take his Argentine counterpart and FIFA directly to court and file a complaint for racist and discriminatory comments.”
The song dates back to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, originally performed and “created” by ordinary fans who sang it live on a channel.
