Renato Portaluppi, coach of the Brazilian club Gremio, was in the news yesterday in the midst of the defeat his team suffered against Bahía as a visitor.
The incident occurred after the player of the gaucho team, Diego Costa, saw the red card at the end of a hot duel while he was on the substitute bench.
As a result of this, Portaluppi exploded and accused the former referee Jailson Macedo, current president of the arbitration commission of the Bahia Federation, of requesting the expulsion of the Spaniard to the fourth referee.
Portaluppi’s reaction was so strong that he made an unprecedented decision with the substitutes, he told the refereeing authority everything and then asked the entire bench of substitutes to leave for the locker room.
“I left the team so I wouldn’t be expelled and no one else would be expelled. Mr. Jailson Macedo Freitas is the director of arbitration of the Bahia Federation. He was where he couldn’t be, on the side of the fourth official. The fourth referee didn’t see anything, it was he (Jailson) who said that he saw Diego say something. He was in a place where he couldn’t have been and Diego didn’t say anything at all. So do you want me to leave my players to be sent off or to be sent off myself? That is not possible,” declared Renato.
They expelled Diego Costa, who was on the side of the playing field, and Renato Gaúcho sent the ENTIRE SUBSTITUTE BENCH to the locker room 😳
Yes, he left too 😅🇧🇷
