Pork exports grow 12% in July

Brazil earned US$ 250 million with the exports of pig meat in July 2023. The balance represents 12% more, compared to the same month in 2023.

As exports of pig meat July moved 105 thousand tons. According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA)the volume shipped was 9% higher than the result for the same month in 2022.

From January to July 2023, the sector’s shipments moved 700 thousand tons and generated US$ 1.6 billion. As a result, shipments increased by 15% and revenues grew by 24% over the same period of the previous year.

“For the fifth consecutive month, pork exports exceed the total volume of 100,000 tons,” said Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA. “There are good expectations regarding the performance of shipments in the sector for the year, with indications of record potential.”

Luís Rua, markets director at the association, related the good result to the opening of new markets. “The positive projections for the year are supported, especially by the influence of sales to recently opened destinations, such as Canada, Mexico, Peru, as well as others such as the recent expansion of authorizations, as is the case of Singapore, with processed pork products ”, said Rue.

Pork export destinations

China remains the main destination, with 38 thousand tons imported in July alone. The quantity shipped, however, was practically the same as in the same month in 2022.

Three other markets were highlighted, according to ABPA. They are: Philippines, with 12 thousand tons (+38%), Hong Kong, with 7.8 thousand tons (+8%) and Chile, with 6.9 thousand tons (+107%).

Largest national exporter

In July, Santa Catarina was the State with the highest volume of pork exports in Brazil. There were 54 thousand tons. That is: just over half of all shipments in the sector. In the top three also appear Rio Grande do Sul (28 thousand tons) and Paraná (13 thousand tons).
