Manama: A young man was arrested in Bahrain for misusing social media. The legal action was triggered by the posting of obscene videos and pictures on social media accounts. Officials of the General Morals Division under the country’s Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science found his social media profile.
The Criminal Investigation Department submitted a report to the Public Prosecution against him for misuse of social media. According to a notice issued yesterday by the Capitare Governorate Prosecution, his personal social media accounts contained video footage and images that violate public decency and promote immoral activities.

The Public Prosecution then ordered his arrest. After questioning, he was charged with promoting prostitution in public, misusing communication tools and handling obscene video footage. The case has now been handed over to the court after being kept in custody for seven days to complete the investigation.
Similar incidents were recently reported elsewhere in Bahrain. Security officials also arrested a man in Muharraq Governorate for posting obscene pictures on social media. After questioning him too, the evidence was collected and the case was handed over to the court.
