He Chancay port is on its way to becoming a giant in the port industry, with projections indicating that it will be 1.5 times larger than the port of Callao after its modernization. This ambitious project is being carried out by Cosco Shipping Ports, which is building the future Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal.

The port of Chancay will have an area of 141 hectares, of which 80 will be dedicated exclusively to maritime management. In comparison, the port of Callao, under the concession of its two operators, APM Terminals and Dubai Ports World Callao, plans to move 2.7 million 20-foot containers (TEU) per year.

Although the port of Chancay will begin moving a smaller volume, 1 million TEU annually in the first phase, in addition to 6 million tons of general and bulk cargo, expectations are high. The objective is for Chancay to become a regional hub port, moving cargo that will come from other places of origin.

In phase I, the port will have four berths: two for containers and two other multipurpose ones to move general cargo. In addition, it is expected that Cosco Shipping can quickly expand its handling capacity, from 1 million to 1.5 million TEU, to continue growing.
