Port of Laayoune: Landings of coastal and artisanal fishing down 27% at the end of June (ONP)

The market value of these products also experienced a decline of 1% at the end of last June to reach 834.47 million dirhams (MDH), against 845.29 MDH at the same period a year earlier, specifies the National Fisheries Office (ONP) in its latest report relating to statistics on coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco.

By species group, the same source reports a 30% drop in landings of pelagic fish at the port of Laayoune, to reach 89,174 T, or a value of around 367.41 MDH (-15%).

However, the report highlights an increase of 17% to 9,190 T (140.39 MDH/15%) in white fish catches during the first six months of 2023 at this port infrastructure.

Concerning cephalopods, landings recorded a clear increase of 3% to 4,112 T (316.62 MDH/13%), while those of crustaceans experienced a decrease of 19% to reach 335 T (10 MDH/-19%).

Nationally, landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products reached 522,813 T in the first six months of this year, down 19% compared to the same period in 2022.

In value, these landings show an increase of 3% to more than 4.98 billion dirhams, according to the ONP.
