The 22nd World Cup between 32 teams will take place in Qatar from November 21st to December 18th. The qualifying round for this has reached the final stage. Portugal beat Northern Macedonia 2-0 to advance to the World Cup for the 8th time in the play-off round of the European continent in Porto last night. Bruno Fernandez scored both goals for Portugal. This is the 5th time that Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has played in the World Cup. In another play-off round, Poland defeated Sweden 2-0 to clinch the World Cup.

Senegal beat Egypt 1-0 in a qualifying round match for the African continent. In the first round between the two teams, Egypt won 1-0. The penalty shoot-out was followed by a 1-1 draw at the end of both games. Senegal beat Egypt 3-1 in a penalty shootout to advance to the World Cup for the 3rd time. Similarly, teams from Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco and Tunisia also secured World Cup chances.

So far 27 teams have qualified for the World Cup. Two more places will be known today. Following that we will have to wait until June to find out what the remaining 3 teams are. Meanwhile, the ‘draw’ event to decide who will clash with whom in the group round of the World Cup takes place tomorrow.
