Portugal will present its candidate to host Euro 2029 women’s football, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced on Wednesday in a press release published on its website.
Portugal wants to organize the Women’s Euro in 2029, announced the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF). This candidate will “take a step further to consolidate women’s football in Portugal” which has developed significantly in recent years, indicated FPF President Fernando Gomes.
“We intend to strengthen this position with a project of this size”he explained. The FPF, which made this decision during a meeting of its management on Wednesday morning, also recalled its experience “in organizing international events”.
Portugal, which has already hosted Euro 2004, responded to the call for applications launched by UEFA last July. The candidates have until September 24 to announce themselves, before the host country is chosen in December 2025. Denmark and Sweden have already indicated that they will present a joint candidate for this competition.
Euro 2029 will host 16 teams as has been the case since the 2017 announcement Euro 2025 must be played in Switzerland from July 2 to 27.
