Portugal drops one position and is overtaken by Poland in terms of the minimum wage

According to data from Eurostat, Luxembourg is the country where the minimum wage is the highest, while Bulgaria has the lowest.

The minimum wage in Portugal increased this month to 820 euros gross, insufficient, however, to change the country’s remuneration position in the European Union (EU). According to Eurostat data, the country dropped one place compared to last year, ranking 11th. position in the table of member states where there is a minimum wage. There are 22 in total, of the 27 that make up the European Union. Countries such as Denmark, Italy, Austria, Finland and Sweden are therefore left out of this accounting.

Luxembourg was the EU country with the highest minimum wage, at 2,571 euros, followed by Ireland, where the minimum wage is 2,146.30 euros, and the Netherlands, with a minimum wage of 2,070.12 euros.

Poland was the country that managed to surpass our country, reaching a minimum wage of 977.53 euros.

The highest annual growth, between 2014 and 2024, was achieved in Romania with a 13.3% increase in the minimum wage. This is followed by Lithuania, which registered an annual increase of 12.3%, Bulgaria, which had an increase of 10.6%, and the Czech Republic, which increased by 9.4%.

Less pronounced growth was recorded in France (2%), Malta (2.6%), Belgium and Greece (both 2.9%) and Luxembourg (3%).
