Great drama. It’s hard to imagine the 2022 World Cup without Portugal or Italy, but surely at least one of them will not be there. Today (Friday) the play-off draw for the World Cup in Qatar was held in Zurich, Switzerland, with the big news: Cristiano Ronaldo and his friends will be able to meet the European champion in the final, so that at least one of them will not qualify for the biggest tournament the football world has to offer.
The 12 teams that got the ticket to the playoffs were divided into three mini-tournaments (tracks) of four teams and will fight for the remaining three tickets, with six semi-finals in three tracks. Another interesting meeting will be between Robert Lewandowski and Poland and Russia on the ticket to the playoff finals.
Since Portugal and Italy were drawn for the same route (Tuesday) and will face Turkey and Northern Macedonia in half respectively, they will be able to meet in the final if they beat their rivals and thus in fact at least one will not advance to the World Cup. The exciting semi-finals will be held in March. It should be noted that Austria and the Czech Republic reached the playoffs through the League of Nations.

In addition, there was another draw for the intercontinental playoff finals, with the winner of the fourth round in Asia (third place in House A versus third place in House B) – will meet fifth place in South America, while the team that finishes fourth in Central America will play against the winner in Oceania.
