Isaac Villalba, director of Nautical Sports, Spas and Waterfront of Posadas, highlighted the relevance of these initiatives during an interview where he detailed the events planned for this special week.

“This week we are dedicated to promoting the safe use of aquatic spaces and providing crucial information on rescue and first aid techniques,” Villalba explained.

The scheduled activities include talks on first aid open to the community, where basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and how to act in case of emergencies in the water will be taught. In addition, rescue drills will be carried out in collaboration with the Naval Prefecture, the Police and emergency medical services.

“We are managing a drill for Saturday at the El Brete Spa, where our skills will be tested in real time, from water rescue to coordination with emergency medical services,” Villalba explained.

Regarding the training of new lifeguards, Villalba reported that registration for the Lifeguard School is open and that aptitude tests are being carried out in both swimming and basic lifesaving knowledge.

«We currently have more than 60 registered and we are very happy with the interest shown. Additionally, we offer swimming lessons for those who wish to improve their skills before entering lifeguard school,” he added.

Villalba also highlighted the growing demand for lifeguards in the province and in other regions of the country, which demonstrates the importance and need for this service in different contexts.

«Even in inland municipalities, where there is no specific legislation on water safety, we are seeing an increase in demand for trained lifeguards. It is essential that these municipalities are covered by trained professionals to prevent accidents,” Villalba concluded.

With these activities and training programs, the Posadas Nautical Sports, Spas and Waterfront team seeks to promote a culture of prevention and safety in aquatic spaces, guaranteeing the protection of bathers and visitors throughout the year.

For his part, Cristian González, delegate of the Lifeguard Union, shared details about the activities planned for this special day.

«Today’s activity is to commemorate Lifeguard Day on February 14. Our intention is to improve year after year. On this occasion, we are carrying out four tests, two in the sand sector and two in the water, with the participation of 20 competitors,” González explained.

The tests include a group warm-up followed by a 200-meter relay relay, where lifeguards will demonstrate their sports rescue and rescue skills. In addition, sprint races will be held in the sand, all with the aim of promoting camaraderie and continuous training in the prevention of aquatic accidents.

González also highlighted the challenges that lifeguards face, especially during peak season and amid health situations such as dengue and COVID-19.

«Despite the circumstances, our lifeguards are committed and in constant preparation. Aquatic safety is a responsibility we take very seriously,” he emphasized.

Regarding the training of lifeguards, González pointed out that the majority of them have graduated from the municipal and provincial schools of Posadas, which guarantees a standard of quality and professionalism in their performance.

«90% of our lifeguards come from these training institutions. However, we still face challenges in covering aquatic areas in the interior of the province, where more resources and training are needed,” González added.

At the end of the interview, González reflected on the importance and demand of a lifeguard’s work, highlighting that their work goes beyond simple rescue in the water.

«Being a lifeguard entails constant work stress. “We are always alert and ready to intervene in any emergency situation, both in the water and on the beach,” he concluded.

The celebration of Lifeguard Day in Posadas not only recognizes the work of these professionals, but also promotes awareness about the importance of aquatic safety throughout the community.
