Claiming that no land of the Sharif Bagh Jama Masjid in the capital has been encroached, Sabina Mumtaz, one of the owners, said that her family has supported and donated in various ways for the establishment of this mosque from the beginning. He also said, “We have not occupied the land, rather we have left 5 feet of land to the east of the mosque to my family, which is known to the mosque committee and everyone in the area.” The eastern boundary wall of the mosque was given in the presence of the then president, secretary and other members of the mosque committee, Shahabuddin, brave freedom fighter commander Helal Uddin and other dignitaries.
Land owner Sabina Mumtaz said this in a press conference at her residence on Tuesday (April 9).
In the press conference, Sabina Mumtaz said, due to lack of money, the land registration of the mosque fell into uncertainty at one point. Then my family gave a one-time donation check of Tk 22 lakh and registration of the mosque was completed. The mosque saw the face of light by the grace of Allah. Moreover, they have been giving donations for different needs of the mosque at different times. But sadly, he has taken the bathrooms of the mosque up to their walls, which is spoiling the environment due to the stench. The mosque committee modified the design of Rajuk and built the main mosque building up to the western wall of the Mumtaz family and up to the boundary wall of Kalam Sahib on the northern side of the mosque. Kalam Sahib’s son Afroz lodged a complaint with Raju in this regard.
Sabina said, the mosque building was constructed occupying more land than the land registered in the name of the mosque. However, the committee preached that because there is less space, i.e. less land, the land owned by the surrounding people can be occupied in the name of the mosque.
According to the design approved by his family Rajuk, in November 2021, he started the construction of a multi-storied building at a cost of Rs. He said that since then, the mischievous faction of the mosque committee has been indulging in various types of mischief by using the holy mosque to build a road over Sabina’s land despite having multiple entrances in front of the mosque.
Sabina claims that the vested interest mosque committee wants to establish a supermarket inside the holy mosque for the purpose of using it as a business establishment. That is why, despite having multiple entrances in front of the mosque, they are trying to make a road through my land by using the mosque as a way for worshippers.
By persuading various officials of RAJUK in various ways, they are trying to stop the building and demolish the building. 28 April 2022 RAJUK approved design photocopy submitted. But the copy of the design was stolen by someone from Rajuk, the head of the committee, which is against the law.
Sabina Mumtaz said, the committee head claimed in the GD that my father allowed the pilgrims to walk past the house when he was alive. It should be noted here that my father passed away in 2007. But Sharif Bagh Mosque was bought and established in 2016. So how did the deceased in 2007 give way to the worshipers of the mosque built in 2016? This proves that all their allegations are false. Moreover, they failed to show any kind of document in their favor.
He said, the mosque committee complained about our place on 28 July 2022 and lodged a GD with the police station. Later Sabuj Bagh police station authorities submitted GD report to CMM court, so that all allegations are proved false. The CMM showed the certified copy of the court before the journalists, in which the Hon’ble CMM court ruled that all the allegations were false.
Sabina said, on August 4, 2022, in a meeting at Sabuj Bagh Police Station, after all discussions, one of the advisors of the mosque committee, Mostafizur Rahman, stood up and said to all present, ‘We have been in a state of confusion for so long that the amount of space for the mosque is less. In fact, I have seen that they have occupied more land than the land registered by the mosque and built the mosque. And Sabina Mumtaz’s land never had any roads and still doesn’t. The mosque will have no place for him’.
Sabina said, a terrorist group of 10/12 people ambushed on March 28 at the time of Iftar on the orders of the head of the mosque committee. One of our 8 sisters was seriously injured and admitted to the hospital. His condition is critical now.
Claiming that the gang has attacked his house several times in the past and tried to forcefully occupy the land and put up signboards illegally, he said, “Now my family is living in a state of panic and fear, when will the attack happen again!”
After the incident, Sabina said that they built a boundary wall in their unprotected area on the south side of the building in fear of their lives, for self-defense and for their own safety. He ordered to break the wall. and illegally demolished some parts of the wall.
Sabina Mumtaz said that those who are involved in various crimes such as land robbery, threats of forcible possession, are brought under the law and justice is established in the society, and I demand from the concerned quarters to resolve the unrest in the area.
