Postcards recalling heritage: Chennai Literary Society photo exhibition opens

Madras Literary Society (‘Madras Literary Society’) inaugurated the Madras Day photo exhibition on Monday by Prabhasree Devan, a retired judge of the Madras High Court. He then explained the importance of the Chennai Literary Society Library, its heritage and pride.

The exhibition includes photographs of Indian servants who worked in the homes of British dignitaries; The 15 postcards featured reflective octagonal paintings.

In particular, photographs of British dignitaries excitedly using the facilities while they were not at home; The photographs of the nannies assigned to look after the children being taken to England attracted viewers. These photos were compiled by Venkatesh Ramakrishnan.

Mesmerizing view: Similarly, Venkatesan Perumal and Magnath Venkatesan have created 15 famous places in Chennai including Chennai High Court, Anna University, Egmore Railway Station, Ice House, Vivekanand House, Nappy Bridge, Mint Manikoondu in 15 postcards. On the same side of the postcard, the Supreme Court’s old appearance (100 years ago) and its current appearance are shown opposite each other.

The same group had displayed special numbers that have the same meaning when viewed from front and back as Chennai’s 383rd birthday, Chennai Literary Society Postal Code- 600006, Chennai Day (22.8.22).

Also Sivagama Sundari kept items like ivory pen, diary, passport and bag used by his grandfather MP Chidambaram 85 years ago who passed away from Sivagangai. This exhibition was coordinated by Tripurasundari, Secretary of Chennai Literary Society. Photo and postcard exhibition will be held from 10 am to 4 pm every day till September 3rd.
