Posted ‘immoral’ video; Egyptian Tik Toker arrested in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: Egyptian social media influencer arrested in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi police arrested a young woman named Tala Safwan.

The reason behind the arrest was a video posted by Tala Safwan on his Tik Tok account.

Safwan was arrested for allegedly posting an ‘immoral’ and sexually suggestive video.

The young woman is also being attacked on social media for allegedly violating the ‘social rules’ of Saudi Arabia. Tala violated social etiquette, followed by the Twitter hashtag ‘Tala offends society’ which was widely circulated on Saudi social media platforms.

Following this, the Saudi police informed on Monday that Tala was taken into custody.

Safwan recently posted a video on Tik Tok of him making a video call with his Saudi female friend. Safwan invites them to his house in Riyadh. But the friend declines her invitation as it is late.

In response to this, what Safwan said caused a huge protest on social media. “Everyone will sleep and they won’t hear what we do. They will not hear your cry. How much fun we will have,” Safwan says in the video, Middle East Eye reported.

The video went viral and sparked a social media campaign in Saudi Arabia criticizing Safwan for using ‘immoral’ language.

But Tala Safwan says that the video clip that led to his detention was taken out of context and that he was misunderstood in front of the people.

Tala Safwan is a social media influencer with millions of followers. With close to 50 lakh followers on Tik Tok, Tala Safwan has eight lakh subscribers on YouTube.

Tala usually posts vlogs on her social media accounts discussing social issues and TV shows. Tala is popular among the youth of the Arab region.
