Pete Carroll’s tenure as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks has officially come to an end after 14 years at the helm. Carroll recently met with team ownership and expressed his desire to continue coaching, but ultimately the decision was made for him to step down and allow general manager John Schneider to take on a more prominent role within the organization.
During an emotional news conference at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, Carroll revealed that he was supportive of Schneider’s promotion and believed that he deserved the opportunity to lead the team. Despite not specifying his future role within the organization, Carroll made it clear that he will not have input in selecting his successor as head coach.
With the Seahawks now in search of a new head coach, several potential candidates have emerged. Among them is current Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who previously served under Carroll in Seattle. Quinn has garnered interest from multiple teams in previous hiring cycles and has been requested for interviews by several organizations.
Another potential candidate is Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales, who previously held various coaching positions with the Seahawks before moving to Tampa Bay. Canales has been requested for an interview by the Carolina Panthers and could be a strong candidate for the head coaching position.
Other names being considered for the Seahawks’ head coaching vacancy include former head coaches Steve Wilks and Leslie Frazier, as well as recently fired Titans head coach Mike Vrabel. Additionally, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, who previously coached in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers, is also expected to be a highly sought-after candidate.
The team is also exploring potential first-time head coaches, such as Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero are also being considered for the position.
While the search for a new head coach is underway, it remains to be seen who will ultimately fill the role and lead the Seahawks into the future.
