Potholes, strips and asphalts: Municipality in search of funds – Pescara

by time news

PESCARA. To overcome the lack of funds to be allocated to road maintenance, the municipality of Pescara is focusing on a series of strategic works. In other words, it is counting on the total redevelopment of the arteries and also on the national funding that could be allocated to the city through two millionaire projects, one of which has already been presented and the other is under development. “It’s true, we sin on maintenance, there are only 700 thousand euros, but this year many interventions on the roads for redevelopment have already started and we plan to recover funds at national level, by participating in two calls”, he says. Massimo Shepherd, the councilor at the head of the public works commission who recently addressed the issue of road maintenance with the commissioner Adelchi Sulpizio. Among other things, he announced the works in via Paolucci and in via Spalti del re, where the thrust of the roots deformed the asphalt.
It is true that there are no municipal funds but “we have managed to carry out interventions on the roads, for example in Zanni, with funds destined for the suburbs and other works are about to start that will allow us to refurbish the arteries anyway: an example on all is that of via Andrea Doria, heavily damaged by the roots, which will be redeveloped as part of the extension of the equipped Axis », explains Pastore. “Small maintenance, then, is ensured with European funds for sustainable mobility.” But there is more. “We have presented a project to obtain 15 million euros for the implementation of the National Innovative Program for the quality of living (on the redevelopment of disadvantaged urban areas), and we are also working on another project (deadline in June), which it’s about urban regeneration and decor. In case of admission, the reflection on the streets will be inevitable “, says Pastore, underlining the work of the councilors Isabella Del Trecco e Luigi Albore Mascia. Replenishing the funds of the municipality does not seem possible. “We had intended to do so, but there are only cuts, due to Covid-19,” he concludes.
“In fact, the redevelopment machine never stops”, explains Albore Mascia, listing some of the interventions that will allow or have allowed (for example in Zanni and in via Sacco) to overcome the problems of bad roads. «Viale Marconi, for one thing, will become a billiard table, and along with Via Doria the south promenade will also be redeveloped (up to Piazza Le Laudi). Then via Benedetto Croce will be extended, the via Valle Roveto link road will be built and the trumpet junction in southern Pescara will be demolished. We are doing a lot of things, so we will have new and better roads ». To those who ask what happens to the money collected with the sanctions, Albore Mascia explains that they are partly used for “road safety and therefore for the expenses related to signs, pedestrian crossings, execution of ordinances and safety measures, and for a part of the maintenance ». The sums, for 2021, are those indicated last year by the municipal police and, in September, “when checking the budget, it will be possible to make additional allocations”.
