Poultry products: prices will return to “affordable levels” (Mr. Sadiki)

by times news cr

Speaking at a meeting with the Interprofessional Federation of the Poultry Sector (FISA), Mr. Sadiki stressed that professionals are committed to working with public authorities to “do everything possible to ensure that prices return to affordable levels for citizens, particularly before the month of Ramadan.”

In this regard, the minister said that this increase in prices is induced by cyclical aspects, which constitutes “a burden on the purchasing power of citizens”.

He also affirmed that this coordination and consultation meeting with FISA is part of the overall framework of monitoring animal and plant production sectors, noting that during this meeting, strategic aspects of the development of the sector were discussed, with the aim of strengthening its dynamics and development, and with the aim of consolidating “our food security, through food sovereignty”.

For his part, the President of FISA, Youssef Alaoui, indicated that this meeting is part of the ongoing consultations with the ministry in a long-term vision, adding in this sense that the Federation “will proceed to the signing of an action plan with the ministry for a period of 10 years”.

He continued that the meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the current situation, particularly as the month of Ramadan approaches, noting that this observed increase in prices results from the increase in the prices of materials included in the cost of production.

In this wake, Mr. Alaoui cited fodder, corn and soybeans whose prices have increased by 50 to 80%, which has led to a 30% increase in the cost of production.

He also assured that “prices will return to their usual level before the month of Ramadan” marked in particular by a strong demand for eggs, noting that poultry prices in Morocco remain “among the lowest in the region”.

Furthermore, the President of FISA stressed that the production chain of the poultry sector is “self-sufficient”, with the capacity to export chicks to Africa.
