Thiruvananthapuram: KSEB has completely eliminated load shedding in the state. There was no load control yesterday. There will still be no load control. Arunachal Pradesh Power Trading Corporation has decided to accept the 550 MW contract offered at a lower rate than before and start providing power from May 3. In addition, the Load Dispatch Center was commissioned to contract another 100 MW through Power Exchange India Limited, which almost completely offset the shortfall in power supply. KSEB has requested to avoid high power consuming electrical appliances from 6 pm to 11 pm

KSEB has stepped up its efforts to overcome the power crisis in the country due to coal shortage. Out of 19 power plants supplying power to KSEB, only 3 have stopped production so far. The Mython plant in Jharkhand has resumed operations. To overcome the shortage at peak hours, the unit will purchase 250 MW of additional power at a cost of Rs 20 till May 31. There will be an additional liability of around Rs 1.5 crore per day. Nallalam Diesel Station and Peringalkuth provide about 65 MW of power. Power Minister K Krishnankutty has requested consumers to reduce their usage between 6 and 11 pm.

Criticism is mounting on social media that KSEB’s mismanagement and carelessness have accelerated the current crisis. The transmission department had warned last November that there would be a power deficit of up to 543 MW in March, April and May. But KSEB explains that this is baseless.
