The institution said in a statement: “Further to the institution’s statements dated August 7, 2024 and July 27, 2024, and until it becomes clear what will happen regarding the efforts of the concerned parties to address the issue of supplying “gas oil” to the Electricité du Liban, whether through the Iraqi exchange agreement or other sources, and after exhausting all possible precautionary measures taken by the Electricité du Liban in order to extend the energy production period to its maximum possible minimum, in light of the current various circumstances, the Electricité du Liban informs that the last remaining production group of the Zahrani plant on the electricity grid was forcibly taken out of service completely at noon today, August 17, 2024, due to the plant’s stock of “gas oil” being completely exhausted, which resulted in a complete cessation of the electricity supply to all Lebanese territories, including the basic facilities in Lebanon (airport, port, water pumps, sewage, prisons, etc.).”

According to the National News Agency, the statement added: “The institution will once again restart the groups that were forcibly put out of service, in line with the stock that will be available to it after securing the (gas oil) material for its benefit, so that the electricity and supply will gradually return to what they were,” continuing: “Accordingly, the Electricité du Liban institution will keep all honorable citizens informed of any developments regarding the supply of electricity, through subsequent statements in this regard.”
