(Nettavisen): Many are on the lookout for good offers these days. Earbuds are a popular category, and Apple’s AirPods are a well-liked brand.
Power has a deal on Apple AirPods (2nd generation). The website states that you save 199 kroner. However, the price history, logged by Prisjakt.no, shows that these earbuds are more expensive now than thay were just two weeks ago.
The Consumer Council believes this violates marketing regulations.
– Not okay
– This is not okay. They have significantly raised the price for a short period before lowering it slightly again, says lawyer at the Consumer Council, Thomas Iversen.
In this case, power provides the following information:
- Price: 1491,-
- Previous price: 1690,-
- Save: 199,-
The fact is that these cost 1290,- from October 10 to November 10. On November 11,the price was raised to 1690,-.
But in fact, you are paying 201,- kroner more now than the price was on November 10.
– There is no doubt that 1690,- is the wrong previous price. This is not the lowest price in the last 30 days. The correct previous price is 1290,-, says Iversen.
He points out that power woudl hardly have presented this as an offer if they had used the correct previous price.
Power changes stance
Nettavisen has made Power aware of the matter, and shortly after, the information on the website was changed. Now these AirPods are no longer highlighted as an offer, and the prominent label saying “Save 199,-” has been removed.
– Our price robot found a lower price on the product, and we adjusted the price down. By mistake, the wrong previous price was uploaded, says PR and communications manager Silje Ensrud.
– This was changed as soon as we were made aware of it, says Ensrud.
– Everything is set up for the rules to be followed. Here, there was a human error, which was corrected as soon as we became aware of the mistake, says Ensrud.
She points out that this product was not labeled or marketed as part of the Black Friday campaign. But there is another AirPods product that has a nearly identical name.
– Be careful
Apple AirPods (2nd generation) are not labeled with “black Days”. But there are Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) 2023.
These cost 2490,- on offer, and here Power lures with the claim that you can save 500,- kroner.
In this case, the 30-day rule has been followed. However, looking at the history on Prisjakt.no, you find that the Black Friday price is not exactly an outstanding deal.
The exact same price has been offered by Power during three periods earlier this year.
- February 26 to March 3
- May 12 to May 26
- July 28 to August 10
– Yo-yo pricing
– It is not true that all offers on Black Friday are particularly good. Many products have yo-yo prices that fluctuate up and down multiple times a year, says Thomas Iversen from the Consumer Council.
He advises people to be patient.
– It’s wise to check the price history and compare with offers in other stores, he says.
– One should not be dazzled by a price reduction whether it’s in kroner or percentage.Look at the actual price and assess whether it’s realy a good price, says Iversen.
– A comprehensive job
Nettavisen has asked Power to comment on the criticism.
– Yes, Black Days is the largest campaign of the year, with the widest range of offers covering over 1,500 products, says communications manager Silje Ensrud.
Power does not provide a clearer answer to the question. But the communications manager adds:
– It’s a comprehensive job to find the right price for the right product, and we believe we have developed a campaign where all customers can find a good deal.
