A powerful earthquake shook the state of California in the United States yesterday. The quake measured 6.2 on the Richter scale.
It is located 375 km northwest of San Francisco. The epicenter was reported below the ground, according to the US Geological Survey.
The quake, which lasted about 20 seconds, shook buildings, including houses and shops. Panicked people screamed and fled their homes and took refuge in the streets. The quake damaged some buildings and caused extensive cracks in roads, officials said.
The US Geological Survey estimates that the quake could have caused an economic loss of about $ 10 million (about Rs 75 crore 54 lakh in Indian currency). No casualties or injuries were reported from the quake. No tsunami alert was issued for the quake.
