JAKARTA, Sept. 17, 2025 — Rumors swirled Wednesday afternoon that President Prabowo Subianto was preparing for a cabinet reshuffle, but official confirmation remained elusive as ministers and institutional heads offered little insight.
When pressed, sources close to the administration emphasized that any changes to the cabinet are solely the president’s prerogative.
Cabinet Shake-up Speculation Mounts in Jakarta
Speculation about President Prabowo Subianto potentially shaking up his cabinet on Wednesday afternoon has circulated widely. However, officials contacted for confirmation offered a consistent refrain: they know nothing, or it’s not their place to say.
Aries Marsudiyanto, head of Bappisus, stressed that cabinet reshuffles are the president’s decision. “I can’t talk about a reshuffle,” Marsudiyanto stated when confirmed at the Presidential Palace Complex yesterday. “Let him announce it later.”
He also declined to comment on circulating names for positions like Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, with Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Djamari Chaniago reportedly being considered.
“Wow, I don’t know about any reshuffle. It’s his business, his prerogative. Don’t ask me about a reshuffle,” Marsudiyanto added.
When asked about invitations to attend an inauguration, he deferred, stating, “Later we will see, the State Secretary will handle it.”
Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa echoed the sentiment, telling reporters he was unaware of any plans for a cabinet shake-up. “I don’t know,” he said.
Earlier reports indicated that Prabowo might proceed with a cabinet reshuffle today. Several names have surfaced as potential candidates for vacant ministerial posts.
Besides Chaniago, rumors suggest Erick Thohir, currently the Minister of BUMN, may move to head the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
