Prabowo Allocates Prime Jakarta Land for New Islamic Institutions Complex

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has designated 4,000 square meters of land in a prominent Jakarta location for the construction of offices for key Muslim organizations, signaling a commitment to strengthening the role of Islamic institutions within the nation’s capital.

The announcement, made during a briefing at a joint prayer event and inauguration of the management of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) for the 2025-2030 period on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Istiqlal Mosque, underscores the administration’s focus on supporting the operational needs of vital religious bodies. “Today I can say that as President of the Republic of Indonesia, I have provided land in front of the HI Roundabout of approximately 4,000 meters for buildings for the MUI and for Muslim bodies,” Prabowo stated on Monday.

The project will specifically benefit organizations such as the National Zakat Amil Agency (Baznas), the MUI, and various Islamic community organizations – known as ormas – that currently lack adequate space to effectively operate. The President envisions a substantial, multi-story structure on the site, with the final design and height contingent upon the decision of Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar.

“We will build a building up to the Minister of Religion in how many tens of floors. The plan is how many? How much? Forty floors,” Prabowo indicated, suggesting an ambitious scale for the new complex.

The impetus for the land allocation stemmed directly from a request made by Minister Umar during a recent meeting with the President. According to Prabowo, the Minister conveyed the difficulty in locating a permanent office for the MUI. “His request as Minister of Religion conveyed, Sir, that it is not clear where the MUI office is now. I’m sorry, I don’t know exactly where the MUI office is,” Prabowo admitted, highlighting the pressing need for a centralized location.

The chosen location, situated in front of the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout, is considered a prestigious and highly visible area in central Jakarta, near the iconic “Welcome” statue. Prabowo emphasized the importance of diversifying the area’s landscape. “At the HI Roundabout there shouldn’t just be luxury hotels. Don’t just have malls, there will be buildings that will be used for institutions – Muslim institutions,” he asserted.

This development represents a significant step towards establishing a dedicated hub for Islamic organizations in the heart of the Indonesian capital, reflecting a commitment to their continued growth and influence within the country.
