jpnn.comJAKARTA – Professor of Political Science at Andalas University, Asrinaldi, highlighted the issue of the meeting between the Chair of the PDIP DPP, Puan Maharani and the General Chair of Gerindra and the elected president, Prabowo Subianto.

“Many imagined that the meeting was related to the exploration of PDI Perjuangan’s participation in Prabowo’s government. On the other hand, the meeting was also part of the reconciliation that during the previous election was mutually suspicious, tense with each other, accusing each other of fraud,” said Asrinaldi when contacted by JPNN.com , Tuesday (9/4).

He also said the meeting was part of an effort to reunite the elite in the context of government.

“This is only in the exploratory stage for the elite. Of course this is needed because running a government requires all the power, including the party that lost the presidential election,” he continued.

Then, the question arose whether the meeting would result in the PDI Perjuangan joining the Advanced Indonesia Coalition.

“We can only wait for the results of the meeting. I really believe that the PDI Perjuangan has a strong opposition tradition. If it’s just a meeting and talking about a few things, yes, I don’t think it’s a problem,” he explained.

The author of the book “Political Forces in Indonesia” explains that the decision regarding the coalition is not only in Prabowo’s hands.

“This also has to be discussed with KIM and Pak Jokowi is also there. However, at least of course I think this is an attempt to explore and persuade the PDI Perjuangan,” he explained.
