jpnn.comJAKARTA – Chairman of the DPP PDI Perjuangan, Ganjar Pranowo, said that there needs to be an in-depth study before determining whether regional head elections will be returned to the legislature in the same region.

“It’s best to study in depth first,” Ganjar said in response to the media, Friday (13/12).

The narrative of regional head elections returning to the DPRD emerged after a statement by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, appeared at the celebration of Golkar’s 60th anniversary in Bogor, West Java, Thursday (12/12).

Prabowo feels that holding the 2024 simultaneous regional elections will cost a lot of money, and elections through the DPRD are the answer to this problem.

The head of state considers elections through the DPRD to be more efficient and effective, as in Malaysia and Singapore.

According to Ganjar, Indonesia decided to directly elect regional heads because previously problems arose regarding determining regional leaders via the DPRD not representing the aspirations of the people.

“There is an argument that it does not represent the will of the people, there is buying and selling of support,” said the former Governor of Central Java (Central Java).

Ganjar said it was necessary to involve all elements when other ideas emerged to restore regional head elections through the DPRD.

Chairman of the DPP PDI Perjuangan, Ganjar Pranowo, touched on the issue of studies before returning regional head elections to the DPRD.
