jpnn.comJAKARTA – President-elect Prabowo Subianto welcomed the steps taken by the MPR leadership to provide legal certainty for several MPR TAPs related to Sukarno (Bung Karno), Suharto, and Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur).
At the National Gathering meeting with the President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, the MPR leadership emphasized that the legal status of each TAP had in principle been completed, so that all accompanying legal implications were no longer valid.
“The President-elect of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo, stated that he welcomed the MPR’s decision,” said MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) after holding a National Gathering of MPR Leadership with President-elect Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, Monday (30/9).
Apart from Bamsoet, also present were Deputy Chairman of the MPR Ahmad Basarah (PDIP), Ahmad Muzani (Gerindra), Lestari Moerdijat (Nasdem), Jazilul Fawaid (PKB), Sjarifuddin Hasan (Democrat), Hidayat Nur Wahid (PKS), Yandri Susanto (PAN) , Amir Uskara (PPP) and Fadel Muhammad (DPD RI).
“The leadership of the MPR also encouraged the three former Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, Suharto, and Abdurrahman Wahid to be given appropriate awards for their services in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including the award of the title of National Hero,” added Bamsoet.
Bamsoet conveyed that the MPR, as the incarnational institution of all Indonesian people and the Great House of Nationality, is committed to continuing to make various efforts to realize national reconciliation and harmony of national brotherhood.
The national gathering with Prabowo Subianto was the last in a series carried out by the MPR leadership to convey various input about the nation’s future journey from figures to political party leaders who were met earlier.
“Through the National Gathering, the MPR always welcomes every view and thought from national figures which will be an important input in responding to various increasingly complex and dynamic national issues,” said Bamsoet.
