At TypeLit.io test and practice your typing by typing world literature. The website has dozens of novels in different languages. There are ten works available in German, including Franz Kafka‘s The Metamorphosis, Also Spoke Zarathustra by Friedrich Nietzsche and Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
Once you have decided on a work and a chapter, the relevant text opens, which you type out immediately – against the clock, of course. At the top right you can always see the WPM value for the number of words per minute as well as a percentage for the frequency of errors. If you pause for longer than five seconds, the timer pauses.
The coloring of the background and text, the shape of the cursor and many other aspects of the user interface can be adapted to your own taste. The service is free. You can track your progress with a free account. If you want to upload your own books, you have to pay $5 per month for the premium version.
