- Collaborations aim to boost Jakarta into the top 50 global cities.
- Interest shown in replicating New York’s High Line park concept.
- Potential for green spaces on abandoned city land.
On Tuesday, Pramono shared his optimism, stating, “Hopefully, what we aspire to make Jakarta one of the top 50 global cities can be achieved.” These discussions, held on the sidelines of the forum at UN Headquarters, underscore a strategic effort to benchmark and implement successful urban development strategies.
Transforming Urban Spaces
During his visit, Pramono explored the High Line in New York, a distinctive green space converted from an old railway track. He expressed keen interest in adapting this model for Jakarta.
The governor envisions transforming abandoned sites within Jakarta into public green areas. This approach, he noted, could circumvent the persistent challenge of land acquisition, as many of these derelict spaces are already state-owned.
This initiative is seen as a practical step towards enhancing community well-being and urban aesthetics, providing much-needed recreational and communal spaces.
Heidelberg Agreement Signed
Earlier, the Jakarta Provincial Government and the City Government of Heidelberg, Germany, formalized a memorandum of understanding. This partnership is set to concentrate on key areas including digital transformation, sustainable urban management, the adoption of renewable energy sources, and the development of environmentally friendly technologies.
