New Delhi: Election strategist Prashant Kishor will not join the Congress. Congress spokesperson and AICC general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala said Prashant Kishore had rejected the suggestion to join the party. Randeep Singh Surjewala thanked Prashant for the suggestions.

Prashant Kishore’s invitation was rejected shortly after party president Sonia Gandhi decided to form an ‘Empowered Action Group’ to prepare the party for the 2024 elections. “After a presentation and discussion with Prashant Kishore, the Congress president formed an Empowered Action Group 2024, which invited her to join the party as part of the group with defined responsibilities, but she declined. We appreciate his suggestions to the party, “tweeted Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Later, Prashant Kishore tweeted that the Congress needed more leadership and collective will to solve structural problems than himself.

Even as the Congress was considering bringing in Prashant Kishore, a section of senior activists had expressed different views in view of his links with various political organizations. Even the rebel group known as G23 in the party was not impressed with Kishore’s arrival. They had accused the leadership of ignoring the talents of the party and relying on someone who was not loyal to the party.

Last week, the Kishore Congress had given detailed instructions to the top brass at a meeting chaired by Sonia Gandhi on the path to the 2024 general elections. AICC general secretary KC Venugopal had said that a decision on the teenager’s proposal, including whether to join the party, would be taken within a week.

Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior party leaders attended a four-hour meeting last Saturday at the residence of the 10th Congress president at Janpath to discuss the party’s strategies for the forthcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Sources said Kishore had told the gathering that he was ready to join the Congress without expecting anything in return and wanted to implement his plan to help strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

After the meeting, Venugopal had told reporters that a team would be appointed to discuss the proposals.

Prashant Kishore had earlier joined the JDU but was expelled in January 2020 for his stance on the Citizenship Amendment Act. The Trinamool Congress, DMK and Aam Aadmi Party had sought his help in their Assembly election campaigns.
