The Vibrio vulnificus bacteria, present in these products sold in Super U stores, can cause serious gastrointestinal upset or generalized infection.

You may have eaten prawns during the traditional Christmas meal. If these come from a Super U brand, check their batch carefully: they could be contaminated with Vibrio vulnificus. This flesh-eating and potentially fatal bacteria is therefore present in frozen “whole raw prawns” from the U brand, sold in 600 gram packages. To prevent any health risk, these products are therefore subject to a rappel in all of France. To verify, the barcode of the affected product is 3256227108310, and the lot is: Asd644g19vn031VI071. The maximum durability date is set for July 19, 2025.

Do not consume

On its site, Rappel Conso states that “foodborne illnesses caused by Vibrio vulnificus can occasionally result in mild gastrointestinal disorders in healthy individuals, but also in severe non-intestinal disorders“, such as generalized infection or sepsis, “in susceptible people or people with pre-existing chronic conditions.» «Furthermore, skin infections are likely to occur from pre-existing injuries when handling products.» It is therefore recommended not to consume these prawns, and to return them to the store for a refund, before the end of the recall procedure set for January 7, 2024.
