The Orthodox Jewish prayer house in Budapest’s Erzsébetváros district has reopened after 40 years.

The rehabilitation of the synagogue, carried out in cooperation between the Hungarian Autonomous Orthodox Jewish Community (MAOIH) and the United Hungarian Jewish Community (EMIH), has been completed; The new Torah scroll was installed in the building in a ceremony on Tuesday.

“The Jewish communities in Hungary can always count on the government. We will support them because they are part of the nation they are building and strengthening through their religious beliefs and communities.” Miklós SoltészState Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. Slomó Köves, Chief Rabbi of EMIH, emphasized that “we no longer have to be ashamed of being Jews”. The reopening of the synagogue is the result of an exemplary merger.
