Ministry of Public Health Predicts Potential Disease Outbreaks for 2024

Dr. Thongchai Keerati Hatthayakorn, the Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, has announced that the Ministry of Public Health is equipped with a modern information system that allows for the prediction of potential disease outbreaks and the monitoring of environmental factors that can contribute to the spread of diseases.

In a recent statement, Dr. Thongchai highlighted three diseases that are predicted to have outbreaks in 2024. COVID-19 remains a top concern due to its continuous mutations, and it is recommended that high-risk groups, such as the elderly, diabetic patients, and individuals with underlying health conditions, receive the vaccine at least once a year. In 2023, there were 652,868 cases of COVID-19, leading to 848 deaths, and it is expected that there will be approximately 649,520 patients in 2024.

Influenza, which is also a respiratory disease, is expected to have around 346,110 cases in 2024, while dengue fever, transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, is predicted to have approximately 276,945 cases and 280 deaths.

Dr. Thongchai emphasized that in addition to these three diseases, the Department of Disease Control is also monitoring 12 other diseases with the potential to affect public health.

The Department of Disease Control continues to use various channels to monitor disease and health hazards and emphasizes the importance of preventive measures. They encourage citizens to stay informed about diseases and health hazards and provide a hotline, 1422, for inquiries.

With these predictions in mind, the Ministry of Public Health is urging the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of these diseases in 2024.]
