Preemptive operations included… Kirkuk Police announces its plan to secure the rituals of Muharram

Kirkuk Police Command announced today, Friday, the details of its security plan for the month of Muharram, while confirming the implementation of preemptive operations in a number of areas of the province within the plan.

Kirkuk Police Command spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Amer Shawani, told the (INA): “Kirkuk Police Command, in cooperation with other security agencies, has developed an integrated plan to secure the performance of the rituals of the month of Muharram in the governorate, which includes all areas of Kirkuk.”
Shawani added, “The plan includes securing 123 Husseiniyas and a mourning procession under the command of high-ranking officers and with the participation of all security forces, in addition to securing the city’s surroundings and the roads taken by the processions of visitors and a full deployment on the main roads to secure the protection of the processions heading to the governorates of Baghdad, Karbala, and Najaf, and to facilitate their passage through the checkpoints and ports of Kirkuk.”
He added, “The plan included carrying out preemptive operations by emergency brigades and the army to raid and search a number of areas on the outskirts of the city. Five residential neighborhoods were searched and a number of wanted persons were arrested according to various judicial rulings.”
