State Secretary to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson Under Investigation for Unauthorized Environmental Activities
A preliminary investigation has been launched against Johan Jakobsson, state secretary to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M), for unauthorized environmental activities and violations of area protection, according to Dagens Nyheter.
Gustav Månsson, preliminary investigation leader at the police, confirmed to the newspaper that the investigation is currently underway.
The investigation stems from the municipality of Värmdö reporting Johan Jakobsson to the police for illegally building a wooden deck at his country house in Stockholm’s archipelago. Although Jakobsson has since applied for exemption from beach protection, the municipality believes the application will likely be granted.
This news comes as a blow to the Prime Minister’s office, as one of his closest advisors is now under investigation for environmental infractions. It remains to be seen how this development will impact the government and its efforts on environmental protection.
