Interrogations Planned with Suspect in Illegal Intelligence Case, Swedish Prosecutors Say

Interrogations with the suspect involved in an alleged case of illegal intelligence activities are scheduled to be held as soon as possible, according to authorities. Prosecutor Per Lindqvist, from the national unit for security cases, is leading the preliminary investigation.

While details of the case remain scarce, Lindqvist has emphasized that it is currently not possible to provide further information. However, he did mention that the situation may change in the future, indicating that more details may emerge as the investigation progresses.

Illegal intelligence activities are reported to come in three different forms, targeting either Sweden, a foreign power, or individuals. The latter variety, previously referred to as “refugee pioneers,” involves intelligence activities specifically aimed at opposition parties, regime critics, and other minority groups in Sweden.

Tony Ingesson, an assistant university lecturer in intelligence analysis at Lund University, explained that these activities could include regime mapping of refugees, dissidents, or similar subjects. He added that such activities do not necessarily involve classified information and that access to population records could be sufficient, as long as it is done systematically.

The timeline and scope of the suspected crime remain unknown at this point. Authorities have not disclosed any further details regarding the investigation.

As the case unravels, it is anticipated that the interrogations with the suspect will shed more light on the alleged illegal intelligence activities. The prosecutorial team, led by Lindqvist, is expected to provide updates as the investigation progresses.
