It is one of the soap operas of this transfer market. Wesley Fofana remains in Chelsea’s sights, and his situation is turning his daily life upside down in Leicester. The young French defender is unsettled by the Blues’ diligent courtship, and is now training with the Under-23 side, Foxes coach Brendan Rodgers has said.
“He’s a good guy, but it’s hard for him to deal with everything, and as long as he’s in that frame of mind, it’s going to be hard for him to play,” he explained, adding that his Training with the youngest allowed him at least to maintain his physical form and work on his technique.
Absent training last week
Wesley Fofana missed first-team training last week. As a result, Brendan Rodgers removed him from the group which barely beat Stockport County (4th division) on Tuesday evening in the second round of the English League Cup.
“These guys are well paid. The least they can do is be present. And if they don’t, with all due respect, they cannot claim to be in the squad,” the Leicester boss warned.
Arrived two years ago for around 35 million euros from Saint-Étienne, the international hopeful signed a new contract last March, linking him to the English club until 2027. For the management of Leicester, the message is clear: it is not for sale. Unless there is a pharaonic offer, the club does not seem willing to crack.
An offer at 95 million euros?
But Chelsea wants to recruit him and the soap opera drags on. According to British media, Leicester this week rejected a new offer from the Blues, the third, which offered between 60 and 70 million pounds (between €71m and €83m). The London club would prepare a fourth offer at more than 80 million pounds (95M€).
Nothing indicates that the former Saint-Etienne will be in the group this weekend for the 4th day of the English championship. Ironically, the Foxes travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday to face Chelsea.
