About ten days of national mourning have been declared in Great Britain following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Thursday, September 8, and the world of sport is turned upside down. While many personalities paid tribute to Her Majesty and a minute of silence was observed before several European Cup football matches, weekend sporting events are on hold across the Channel.
Premier League Matchday 7 postponed
It was predictable and it is now official. The 7th day of the Premier League, scheduled for this weekend and Monday evening, has been postponed “as a sign of respect for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II”. “As our longest serving monarch, she was an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy after a lifetime of dedication” PL chief executive Richard Masters said in the official statement. “This is an extremely sad time not only for the nation but also for the millions of people around the world who looked up to him, and we join everyone in mourning his passing.”

The Tour of Britain definitively stopped
Three stages from its conclusion, the Tour of Britain has been definitively stopped. “This decision was made in consultation with stakeholders and partners in light of operational circumstances, including the understandable reallocation of police resources at this time,” the organization said in a statement. First in the general classification, the Spaniard Gonzalo Serrano (Movistar Team) is therefore the big winner of the event.
