Presentation in Rabat of the book “Path and perspectives of Italian cooperation in Morocco”

by times news cr

This book aims to highlight the remarkable work of many professionals whose skills and sensitivity have contributed to improving the social, health, institutional and territorial conditions of the Moroccan population and to giving a new vision of Moroccan reality to the general public, including students, journalists, politicians and the Moroccan community in Italy.

The book addresses different themes such as health and protection, education and disability, social inclusion, migration, gender and equality, trade unionism, youth and work, social entrepreneurship and the diaspora, as well as the valorization of heritage and territorial regeneration.

The aim is to present these topics in a little more depth and to propose an exchange of experiences and know-how, sharing new information for development cooperation professionals. The book compiles nine articles written by twelve different authors, ensuring the principle of “authorship” while respecting the individual expressions of each.

In a statement to the press on the occasion of the presentation ceremony, the Italian Ambassador in Rabat, Mr. Armando Barucco recalled the primary importance given to Morocco during the Italy-Africa Summit 2024, stressing that this work bears witness to a “beautiful story of cooperation for development between Italy and Morocco”.

Quoted in the book, Mr. Barucco highlighted the strategic partnership that binds Italy to Morocco, considering the Kingdom as “a privileged partner not only for Italy, but also for the European Union, and a fundamental actor for the stability of the wider Mediterranean and the Sahel strip.”

The ambassador also highlighted the strong presence of the Moroccan community in Italy, specifying that it “is now the largest extra-EU community in Italy (420,000 people, to which must be added approximately 200,000 citizens with dual nationality) and it is among the best integrated, as demonstrated by the almost 65,000 individual businesses managed by Moroccans.”

Mr. Barucco also praised the commitment, dedication and integration capacity of the Moroccan community, noting that bilateral trade totaled 4.44 billion euros in 2022, with an average growth of 27% over the last two years.

Created in 2016 as part of the cooperation reform, AICS aims to align Italy with its main European and international partners in terms of commitment to development, by promoting professional and innovative cooperation, with the necessary flexibility in the face of a constantly changing environment.
