This noon has been presented in the bullring of Las Ventas the II Festival of the Bull of the Community of Madrid that in this first phase includes the Chenel Cup and the Bullfighting Circuit.
The act was chaired by the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Interior of the CAM, Enrique López. Also present were the managing director of the Center for Bullfighting Affairs, Miguel Abellán, and the president of the Fundación Toro de Lidia, Victorino Martín. Both parties, Community of Madrid and Fundación Toro de Lidi, are promoters and organizers of the different circuits of the Fiesta del Toro. The event was also attended by bullfighters, bullfighters and ranchers, businessmen, mayors of the venues and Luis Chenel, son of Master Antoñete.
The Community of Madrid has redoubled its commitment in this second edition and the festivities of both circuits increase from 9 to 11. This II Bullfight will have 26 participants (18 bullfighters and 8 bullfighters), a total of 44 stud farms, the majority of the region, which represent up to 13 different encastes and which will start this weekend, March 26 and 27, extending until July 16 when the final of the Chenel Cup is held.
The Minister for the Presidency, Justice and the Interior, Henry Lopez, pointed out that «we are facing a brilliant cultural initiative that will contribute to boosting the economic fabric of the sector, as well as boosting and promoting cultural and rural tourism in those municipalities that host the bullfights and competitions. For all this, the Regional Government approved in March an item of 1.4 million euros.
The 11 bullfights of the Circuit will be held in municipalities with less than 10,000 inhabitants and the 11 runs of the Chenel Cup in Madrid cities with less than 20,000 inhabitants.
The act was led by the journalist María Ángeles Castro and the first words were from the managing director of the Center for Bullfighting Affairs, Miguel Abellan: «Last year it was difficult for us to find 18 bullfighters who wanted to participate in the Chenel Cup and this year we have had 56 requests, it is an example of the success of the format».
The emotional words of last year’s winners continued, Fernando Adrián, winner of the Chenel Cup, and Isaac Fonseca, winner of the Novilladas Circuit. Both thanked the Community and the Foundation for these projects that have meant a boost and turn in their careers for them.
The president of the Fundación Toro de Lidia, Victorino Martin, highlighted that «the cast of bullfighters and ranches with up to 13 different encastes is a success. The fan is going to enjoy a real spectacle in this Festival of the Bull of the Community of Madrid».
Tickets for the first celebrations are already on sale and friends of the Fundación Toro de Lidia have discounts of up to 50% on the price of tickets.
